Mad for Plaid

Anyone that knows me well knows of my obsession with 90's. The grunge era specifically has a special place in my heart right alongside dark chocolate and coffee.

I wish I could time travel back to the early 90's as a 20 something adult, but seeing as that's not currently a possibility, I'll settle for the comeback of plaids, flannels, loafers, dark lipstick, and rich crushed velvets.

I love the modern take on plaid from this editorial and have channeled its influence into my recent purchases, including this lovely dress from ASOS. It's perfect for the warm October we've been facing in LA and will look equally adorable when the weather cools and I can pair it with some knee highs and combat boots. Gahhhh I can't wait till winter!

Cheers,

Winter Blues (and Pale Pinks and Greens)

images via tumblr and fp blog

As the weather finally dips beneath 75 degrees here in LA, it's been a little easier to imagine wearing sweaters and sipping my favorite seasonal Starbucks drinks (which, if you were wondering, are peppermint mochas and creme brulee lattes).

Rather surprisingly however I haven't been craving fair isle prints and chunky knits typical of the season; instead, I've been very inspired by frosty pinks and pale greens. I realize that these colors are much more reminiscent of late February than of early November, but I guess I'm just thinking ahead.

There's a kind of magical quality in the above photos that reminds me why I love winter so much.

Cheers!

Watercolor Magic

Within the next week, I will finally be moving into my dorm room. I'm really excited to decorate my room this year, seeing as last year I pretty much had the bare minimum of college essentials. It was a snooze fest.

Rather than purchase the standard posters of Audrey and Marilyn, I really want to purchase some original artwork (okay, copies of original artwork) to display. Etsy has been my go to website for nifty one-of-a-kind items for awhile now, and I was blown away when I stumbled upon artist Jessica Durant's amazing watercolors. They're simple yet elegant and right up my alley.

My favorites are the fashion watercolors and the NYC landscapes. I can't get enough.

No but really I'm gonna buy everyone of them.

Cheers,
Sam

The 60's are coming!

Edie & Andy, Twiggy (The original icons)

I've been loving all of the 60's mod inspiration that has been popping up as of late. There have been subtle hints of 60's chic around for a while now, with cool geometric prints, peter-pan collars, and graphic eyeliner, but it seems as if the cool graphic details and simplistic silhouettes that I love are making a comeback. No complaints here. Can't wait to go out and by a sleek sheath dress and style it with some boho hair and makeup for a modern update.

The 60's have always been one of my favorite decades of American culture; they had the best music, the best art, the best fashion. The British Invasion contributed heavily to my infatuation with the times, so maybe I was born in the wrong decade and the wrong country. If I could go back to any era it would be a tie between the 60's and the 20's. Although in hindsight I realize that I would be facing either the Great Depression or the Viet Nam war, so that does complicate my fantasy a little bit.

Long live Sgt. Pepper and his Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Cheers,

Sam
