Mad for Plaid

Anyone that knows me well knows of my obsession with 90's. The grunge era specifically has a special place in my heart right alongside dark chocolate and coffee.

I wish I could time travel back to the early 90's as a 20 something adult, but seeing as that's not currently a possibility, I'll settle for the comeback of plaids, flannels, loafers, dark lipstick, and rich crushed velvets.

I love the modern take on plaid from this editorial and have channeled its influence into my recent purchases, including this lovely dress from ASOS. It's perfect for the warm October we've been facing in LA and will look equally adorable when the weather cools and I can pair it with some knee highs and combat boots. Gahhhh I can't wait till winter!

Prime: Let There Be Bright

This is an editorial I worked on for our school's news magazine, Prime. It didn't turn out quite as well as I'd hoped, given our limited clothing/ accessories (everything came from my closet), as well as mine and the photographer's busy schedules.

I had hoped we could have a bit more of a cohesive theme for the overall shoot, but hey, we did the best with what we had.

I'm excited to work on a fashion magazine for our school next year, so hopefully I can get some assistance from people who are more into fashion!

In other news, I start my internship with Bollare tomorrow.
I'm a bundle of nerves right now, no lie.

And the caffeine probably wasn't helpful either.

Cheers to my first day!

Punk Jock

Some shots from a shoot I styled on campus a couple of weeks ago! We were aiming for a grunge-meets-varsity look, and I love the setting of campus as the backdrop.

Fashion Illustrated

I fell in love with this editorial after first seeing it in the January/February Issue of FOAM magazine. The punchy styling and cool prints look awesome on the stark white background, but it was the cool illustrations by model Langley Fox Hemingway that really caught my eye. My favorite is probably the little kitty. Meow.

I would love to be able to draw and work with mixed media like the talented Ms. Hemingway, but alas, my drawing abilities only go as far as stick figures. Whatever.

Cheers,

Sam

Safari

Not gonna lie, my first thought upon seeing these photos from the Jalouse editorial were "Oh my God it's Jane from Tarzan." The hair, the hat, the fitted trousers and neat cognac oxfords-- it's like real life Jane if she had had enough space in her tree house for the most fabulous closet ever.

It's also a little reminiscent of the 40's fashion, when Katherine Hepburn first endeavored into menswear. I can totally imagine this model being her chic niece on one of those charitable mission trips to Africa that all celebrities feel inclined to do. I can tell you one thing, if I ever go to Africa (or even South America for that matter), I'll wear these outfits shamelessly.

Socialite Goes to the Tropics

Palm fronds and leafy green floral motifs are my favorite thing about this season's flower power looks. Always a big fan of mixing prints, I was naturally drawn to FOAM magazine's "Mai Tai" editorial. And the short, bleached pixie with micro bangs? Tres chic.

Can't wait to buy a two piece floral set for summer. I'm currently deciding between a matching printed blazer/ shorts set or crop top/ skirt combo. Either way my friends will probably chastise me relentlessly but what do they know about style anyway. They just don't get me.

Cheers to the freakin' weekend!
