Broken Promises

{This photo seemed appropriate enough for the semi-serious nature of this post; but in reality I just like it 'cause it's pretty}

Promises to yourself are the hardest to keep.

Especially when you're a perfectionist and a control freak--basically your standard Type-A worry wart. I've made so many promises to myself since the beginning of my college career that I can't even begin to count how many I've made, broken, and then recanted. They mostly pertain to goals that I've set for myself such as maintaining this blog, losing weight (AKA learning to deal with binge eating disorder), and maintaining both grades and a social life. Looking back, I see that these goals were lofty and idealistic; not really something I could use will power alone to overcome. They're also more like long-term processes that need to be accomplished with much self-discipline, hard work, and motivation.
So that's why I've chosen a different approach. Rather than promises, that seem like a pass or fail kind route to accomplishing my goals, I'm going to focus on effort, celebrating the little achievements, and simply living life a day at time.

As cheese-tastic as this may sound, it's a step in the right direction for me. It's a blog post for one, but it's also a promise to myself to stop seeing things in black and white; it's a self-reflection on the methods of the past that haven't worked out for me. It's a message to keep in mind on those days when binging on food seems like the only way out, or when I'm feeling too fat to even belong anywhere near the fashion industry.
This, my friends, is the equivalent of that corny "keep your head up" kind of song that every artist feels compelled to release on his/her album.
In the scheme of things, I've made mistakes-- back-tracked even-- but the point is that I'm trying. And as long as I have the motivation, I think I'll be alright.

Wow, you read all of this? Cheers, my friend. Thanks for not bailing on my page.

Don't worry, be happy.

Spring-spiration

I know I'm bored when I post this consistently. But this time I really couldn't help it-- I needed to post something about the bright, springtime colors that I've pretty much been obsessed with as of late. I'm especially excited about minty greens, punchy peaches, and bright purples. Paired with shiny gold and silver metallics, the colors just look so cheery!
Hopefully I'll soon be able to post some pictures of the bracelets that I've been working on. They're definitely bright and totally summery. Stacked up my wrist with my over-sized watch fun tangerine nails, they give an added "oomph" to my outfits.
All I need to do now to get ready for spring is get my legs in short-shorts shape. LET'S DO IT.

Pretty Please

I haven't been shopping in TWO WHOLE MONTHS. I think I deserve a little retail therapy during this long  President's Day weekend, especially after a long week of midterms (ok, I had one midterm, but still).
Lately I've been loving pleated faux leather skirts and chunky wrap bracelets, and I absolutely adore these Karen Walker sunnies. They're expensive, but since I lost my Ray-Bans (*sob*) I'm thinking they'd be an excellent Spring/Summer investment.

So far my weekend plans include a nice leisurely run, some pretentious latte sipping at a new brunch spot, and plenty of shopping. Can't wait!

Insta-Sam: Week of 2/12

1. & 2. Ahhh, SoCal winters.
3. Shenanigans in Nordstrom
4. I miss getting paid for making desserts that look this good. All I get now is a bunch of students in the dining halls asking how I made my fro-yo so pretty.
5. Early dinner at Pizza Antica in Santa Monica.
6. Slouchin'

At this very moment, I've decided that blogging and stalking other bloggers who were able to attend NYFW is much more important than studying for my Italian midterm (which is happening in T Minus 2.5 hours).
Thankfully midterms are over after today, which means I can watch the UCLA vs. USC game in peace.
Ciao!

February's Coming

Although I appreciate the fresh "do-over" feeling that comes with a new year and the crisp mornings in January, I absolutely cannot wait until February. My birthday month is always a little bittersweet (thank you, Valentine's day), but the weather is always wonderful here in SoCal and the stores are filled with bright pinks and reds and the greatest assortment of dark chocolate candies.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm currently attempting to merge both my tumblr and blogger accounts so that I can post more inspiring images on my blog (and therefore post more often). I fell in love with the mix of brights and neutrals in these photos; definitely my new favorite trend. And that arm candy? Count me in. I'm definitely in the market for some new bangles and bracelets.

Good Eats

Alright, so you know that saying, "don't knock it till you've tried it?" That would be an excellent quote to throw in right about now.
Many of my friends have scoffed at the idea of eggs on pizza, throwing my unconventional favorite off the table without even giving it a chance. But let me tell you, eggs on pizza just may be the greatest invention since pizza itself. Plus, this recipe is way healthier than your standard pepperoni pie. It's a whole wheat crust topped with fresh spinach, prosciutto, garlic, Parmesan cheese, and of course, four large eggs.
It's an awesome lunch special (for when I get bored of my standard pastrami sandwiches) that may look a little strange, but packs a punch of flavor.

Recipe here.

{Sliced prosciutto & garlic}

{Chopped baby spinach}

Chartreuse

One of my New Year's resolutions was to start blogging more often, so I called up Emily, my best friend and next door neighbor since forever, and we did a little modeling in her back yard. It was definitely amateur work, but soooo much fun. I was especially excited to debut my chartreuse sweater from Urban Outfitters (where else?) and some vintage Ray-Bans that Emily found. (Yes, she found a pair of real Ray-Ban Wayfarers lying around. The lucky duck.)
For this little photo shoot, Emily let me style her and I got a bit carried away with the camera, considering she's so photogenic. A couple of these shots definitely scream 'profile pic.'
Anyway, I have TONS of new clothes (yay Christmas gift cards and employee discounts!) so I'll hopefully have some more pictures up soon.

{Yup, that's my bff.}
